Residents of Kasoa Green Estate have appealed to the government to urgently address the water crisis affecting the community, as residents continue to depend on private water tankers for their basic water needs.
These residents say the pipelines serving the area are not functioning, forcing households without water to purchase water from tanker operators or other residents who have access to water. They say a tanker load can cost between GH¢350 and GH¢450, making it difficult for many families to afford.
Adding that households that rely heavily on tanker water face a significant financial burden, particularly when they have to purchase water repeatedly within a short period. They said the money spent on water adds to other household expenses, including feeding and school-related costs for their children.
They further explained the exiting boreholes has not provided a reliable alternative because water obtained from some parts of the area is reportedly salty and unsuitable for domestic use.
With the dry season approaching, these residents fear the situation could worsen as demand for water increases and tanker operators may raise their prices due to difficulties in sourcing water. They are therefore appealing to the government and relevant water authorities to intervene before the situation becomes more severe.
